The gentleman that came to my home did some drywall patch work for me. When I heard the water running in the bathroom I saw him washing the unused portion of spackle down my drain. Had he asked me, I would have gotten him a plastic bag to put the leftover spackle in. After he left I started having problems with the plumbing. Had to pay a plumber to come out and disassemble the plumbing and the drain underneath the sink. He removed clumps of matted putty that was significantly blocking up my pipes. This cost me another $200 to pay the plumber. The gentleman that installed my grab bar is supposedly a general contractor and should have known better than to clean out his tray in my marble bathroom sink and put the drywall spackle down my drain. It was careless and thoughtless to do so. Plus he charged me $150 to put up 1 grab bar and patch 2 small areas from where he removed the towel rack. I would definitely caution others about hiring this company.

Get A Grip Grab Bars, Inc. Response

    02/17/2022

    Dear Customer,

I would like to thank you for calling Get A Grip to install your grab bars on two separate occasions. I was also happy to take down the towel bar and patch the minor blemish on the surface of the wall as a courtesy and for no charge to you. I also appreciate the kind words you said about my work and your complement on the minimal damage to the drywall after removing the towel bar.

I did notice that your drain was slow which is not unusual in a bathroom. Hair is the most frequent cause of clogged drains in bathrooms. It happens gradually and can be easily overlooked.

I am sorry that my rinsing the small amount of compound off my tools caused you alarm. I have done the same thing hundreds of times and in my own home. Drywall compound is a water soluble product about the consistency of toothpaste. It easily rinses away with water.

I wish you would have given me a call and I could have come out and cleaned your drain and if the compound was the cause I would not have charged you anything and you would have saved the $200.

The compound was definitely the cause. I have pictures I took of the putty that flushed out on my pavers. Plus, immediately after you left my sink started making a gurgling sound when the water was shut off, which it had never done before being the house is only 4 years old. As a general contractor I'm sure you know better than to put drywall putty down a drain, but it was cold that morning and you had on shorts and you just figured it was easier and quicker just to clean out your materials in my drain. After all, I'm just a woman. I wouldn't know any better, right?
