We scheduled our dog for an annual visit in which staff were informed our dog is anxious - no mention of him needing muzzled then or when we arrived, we waited alongside others problem free. There was no interaction between our dog and any staff besides the vet himself.
We were called back to the exam room, it was said at this point that our dog (another 9lb Chihuahua) can be nervous and may try to nip. You told us that "he won't be biting me" and handed us a muzzle to put on him. We did so without incident as stated. The vet had ZERO interaction with our dog, before striding over, grabbing him by his harness and flipping him onto his back in a quick aggressive manner. We were in complete shock - our dog is terrified at this point and trying to get away. Dr. ***** grabbed his muzzled snout and shouted at him to "quit it" repeatedly, while scolding us, "Girls this is completely unacceptable" - as our dog struggled more, the vet became more agitated and rougher in handling, this led to our dog peeing and defecating which was met with further agitation, not an ounce of empathy towards a clearly terrified pup. This continued as the vet assured us noone would ever treat our dog if he got sick, and if he needed put down, he wouldn't do it.
Somehow, we kept our wits throughout this awful experience, and after asked Dr ***** (who is resting on the table out of breath) for any advice, he told us "Nope, its too late for him".
After posting on social media, it is clear that you do, do this everyday if you'd been transparent from the start that you had no interest in anxious animals, we'd gladly have gone somewhere else. Hopefully this will spare at least a few others from the same treatment.
