I had an auto policy and cancelled it when I sold the car in Sept 2022. I notified the agency by phone and email of my request to cancel my policy. I continued to be charged every month. When I called, they confirmed receipt of my cancellation, apologized, and said they would take care of it. Fast forward a year and I was still being charged all of 2023. I then received a letter from Allstate stating my policy would be cancelled, I called the agent again since I was still being charged and I still have not received a refund. He said to ignore the letter. I said this seems like the policy has still not been cancelled if they are still charging me and now sending me letters. In Nov of 2023 after a ton of my time going back and forth contacting their office, I received a refund of $366. You can imagine that this is not the correct amount since the amount of charges was over $1K. When I called to notify them of the mistake, they were very rude trying to blame this issue on me. They said I should have noticed the money coming out of my account sooner. I did call several times and was dismissed. I also was told to ignore letters from Allstate. I let them know that I do not work there, and it is not my job to make sure a cancellation that was made in writing and by phone was done properly. I spoke with Brian in Dec 2023, and he gave me his word that he would personally oversee this issue. I stressed more than the money I am done wasting my time to constantly follow up on this issue. I asked that he keep me updated with my having to check in. He agreed. That was the last I heard from him. We are now in Feb of ****. I have not heard from Brian Green; he does not respond to my emails. I filed complaints with NAIC as well as contacted Allstate directly. They informed me the cancellation was back dated to March 2023 when the policy was cancelled in Sept 2022. If his office cannot even handle a simple cancellation of an auto policy, good luck on them handling a claim.

    Brian Green: Allstate Insurance Response

Our client is unfortunately correct in this circumstance. I did drop the ball and Allstate has only allowed us to backdate the request to the renewal. I made an honest mistake but there is nothing I am allowed to do at this point. I am sorry for the mistake but have exhausted my means to try and get an exception to Allstate's policy of only backdating a refund to the last renewal.
