Damaged the siding of my house from Power Pressure washing my home. Details are in email sent to BBB
To
whom it may Concern:
On March 22, 2023, I signed a contract with ****s **** *********** to tear down
and rebuild a new deck. My deck was to reach out to the end of the house, which
was 2’2” longer than the original deck. They failed to do this. So after
bringing this to ******* attention. We agreed to use this money that was meant
for the extension of the deck for replacement of some dry rot around my bay
windows and side of house. ***** randomly said, I will throw in a free pressure
washing for your house. I thought how nice and I was excited. The following
week the pressure washing people came out to clean the outside of my house. A
man pulled up in a typical white van. It didn’t look like a professional
pressure washing truck. There was no hose attached to it, nor the companies
logo name written anywhere on the white van. A man and a young girl stepped out
of the van. The young girl didn’t speak any English and the man wasn’t
completely fluent in English, but was able to communicate with me. I let them
perform their job as I had never had my house cleaned before. (they used my
water which later I noticed it increased my water bill an extra $20). When the
job was completed, they cleaned up and the man said I will see you in a couple
days. I didn’t know what he meant by that and I said, what do you mean? He
said, because I will be back to paint your house, and I replied, I am not
getting my house painted. He said oh, that’s what I thought I was cleaning your
house for. I said no. I thought that was somewhat strange and then I didn’t
think about it again.
I was preparing to entertain that coming weekend with my family to celebrate
Easter. When we were out on the deck, several family members asked me what is
that on your house. There is streaks all on your siding. It was horrible
looking. I walked around the house and it was everywhere my siding was. I have
a brick front house and siding on both sides and back of the house.
On April 15, a texted ***** regarding the problem and sent him numerous
pictures showing him what I was talking about. He replied with a text saying. “
******* the guy who cleaned it, said that was prior from him cleaning it, and
it was from a chemical from a previous cleaning like Clorox some people use. We
only use water.” I told ***** my house has never been power washed before. He
said he will come look at it as soon as possible. I said thank you and no rush
though, just give me a heads up when you’re able. I month went by and on May
19, I texted him and asked him if he has forgotten about me. And to please
reach out so we can schedule a time and date regarding the damage done to my
house. ***** replied and said what would you like me to do about the pressure
washing? I replied and said that’s what we need to discuss once you look at it.
I felt I was getting the runaround from ***** so I decided to call another
power pressure washing company to get their opinion on what had happened to my
siding. I called ******** pressure washing and schedule an appointment for them
to come out. They first informed me that my house was not cleaned and showed me
all the black spots on the gutters that should have been gone from a proper
cleaning. **** was the representative that came out to give me an estimate. He
said it looks like your siding got damage and I’m not sure if we can fix this
problem but I will reach out to the owner of the company name **** and show him
the pictures and see what he says about this. He got back with me on June 2 via
text saying . “*****, here is the comment from **** on the siding. The
high-pressure remove the chalk and caused the paint to look uneven. We can even
it out but since the paint is damaged, it might still have some streaks.”
I sent ***** a voicemail on June 6, because I still had not heard back from him
regarding coming to look at the damage done to my siding. He replied via text
and said, “ sorry I can’t talk right now. I responded and said, please call me
today and he said what’s up? I said I am settling up on the poor pressure
washing, and all the caps on the deck were loose. ***** responded and said
okay. He said, I did the pressure washing free for you. If you want to
chemical pressure wash. I would have to recommend another company. We pressure
wash prior painting. “ Then it dawned on me. That is what ****** thought he was
coming out for when he clean my house. They both mentioned painting. Which I
was not having any painting done. I replied to ***** when he told me he did the
pressure washing free for me. I said this FREE job has caused me hundreds
of dollars to get it fixed.
*****, finally came out to assess the damage of my siding, and to look at all
the posts that were loose and crooked. ***** did not acknowledge or take any
responsibility of the damage caused to my siding. In fact, he kept on denying
there was anything wrong while looking right at it. He said to ****** take some
pictures of this, and I interrupted him, saying, I sent you numerous pictures
back in April. I informed him that I called another company name ********
pressure washing. I told him they said they could clean my house since it
wasn’t cleaned and that the siding was damaged from using to high pressure that
removed the chalk and caused the paint to look uneven. I told ***** they said
we can try to even it out but since the paint is damage, it might still have
some streaks. I asked ***** if he would reimburse me for this service which
cost $299 dollars. ***** agreed and I sent him a copy of the invoice and in
return I received a check in the mail. I told ***** I would reach out to him
once the service was completed and we can go from there. I scheduled an
appointment with ******** pressure washing company .
On June 23, ******** pressure washing came out to clean my house. The
house looked noticeably cleaner. The black spots on the gutters and stains were
gone and everything looks so white and bright. The guys cleaning the house said
the person who pressure washed the house before them, took off all the
oxidation of the house and by looking at all the zigzag lines, it would make
sense they thought they were preparing to paint the house and not clean it.
I reached out to ***** on June 26 to schedule a date and time of all the things
that we talked about the last time we met in person. The result of the current
pressure washing, posts and caulking. He informed me to call ***** his
right hand man who was always with him because he said he was going in for a
back procedure. So, I forward the text from ***** to ****** and ***** replied,
“ Good Morning,
I’m heading to meet with my guys now at another job site and I will talk to
them about the deck work and caulking. I am unsure on the painting, but I will
look at the schedule and get something in the works. How’d the pressure
washing turned out? I replied, no painting is needed. I need an itemized
invoice on the dry rot replacement that was done. The pressure washing clean
the house but the damage that was done to the house still remains. Now, again
painting is mentioned and this time by ****** My contact was only to tear down
an old deck and rebuild a new one.
After I sent the text to ***** on June 27, I never heard anything back. I
received an email from ***** on July 10, informing me ***** is on vacation and
as soon as he gets back early next week, he will be over to take care of all my
needs. I never heard anything back. I reached out to ***** via text on August
8. I said, “ ***** please call me so we can schedule an appointment to get
everything fixed. You reached out a month ago and said everything would be
taken care of. I have not heard from anyone since. He replied, I will
give you a call. All this rain has slowed me down. I never heard anything back.
On August 14, I sent ***** a text to read. “ Good Morning *****, after my
siding was damaged by your company. You agreed to pay for another power
pressure company to come out and fix it. It definitely got cleaned this time
but the damage remains. I informed **** (which I meant *****) of this at the
end of June. I have not heard any resolutions from you or how your company will
be fixing or resolving this problem. Please let me know. Thank you! “ *****
replied, “ the resolution was we pay you for the other company to
pressure your siding. It was not damage just cleaning needed again. ***** had
our team schedule for today to replace place your post caps, fix the gate, and
do the caulking. However, it’s raining. So we will be out this week to
resolved. I replied, “ I did not receive a phone call nor a text regarding this
tentative appointment. My gate is locked and I prefer to be home to make sure
these things get done properly. Please let me know the time and date for this
week.
After I was told, my siding was damaged and realize it could not be fixed. I
looked into getting an estimate to see what the cost would be to get new
siding. On July 14, I called * * * ************* We made an appointment for
July 19. The representative came out and gave me an estimate of $22,448.00 in
which included removal and replacement siding. I thought, this free pressure
washing just cost me this unbelievable amount of money.
On August 18, I heard from ***** that they would be at my house between 8-9 am
to fix everything. They caulked, replaced all 9 wood caps with metal caps and
fixed the gate, but still would not take ownership of damage to siding.
During all this time waiting. I noticed one of the posts was crooked, and the
railings were all cut, short, showing light in between the spaces of wood. I
showed this to ****** and he first said it was because of the expanding of
wood. I said, my old deck, which was 15 years old, i have never had any
spaces in between the wood. He said he will have them fixed and replaced. As
far as the crooked post. There was nothing they could do to fix it. Since it
was cemented in. I had him write it down on paper of what needed to be
replaced, and to sign it, because my conversation with ***** and ***** in the
past regarding anything needing to get fixed and regarding the damage to my
siding was as if we never discussed it before.
I never heard back from anyone. On September 25, I sent ***** a text. I said, “
Good Morning ****** October is next week and I want to get on the schedule to
replace the railings that has gaps in them. Please reach out to me and give me
some dates. thank you! “ ***** and his crew came out on September 29 to replace
the railings. I was home the whole time. They left without even notifying me,
to allow me to see if I was satisfied with the work before they left my
home. Days later, I was in the backyard and was looking up at the deck,
when I saw that the railings that were replaced, was overlapping the posts. I
didn’t reach out to them as I was just so exhausted in dealing with this
Company and their continual lack of taking responsibility of their
workmanship and their lack of integrity toward the customer.
Enclosed are pictures of my contract, text communications I had with ****s Home
Renovations ( ***** and *****), ******** pressure washing
text and estimate, estimate from * * * ************* copy of check,
receipt of reimbursement of pressure washing, and pictures of damaged siding,
gaps in between wood and overlapping of replacement railings,
Your help in getting resolution is much appreciated!
Please note: I will be sending all enclosures in a separate email as I am
unable to attach to this email.
Sincerely,
***** * *****
