We purchased a shed from STOR-MOR in Zephyrhills, FL. We were going to pay the entire invoice in cash at time of purchase. The seller recommended that we sign the rent to own agreement and only pay 1 months payment to secure delivery. Then we could pay the rest after the shed was delivered. When I asked the seller how the finance company makes money on the transaction, they stated that they didn't know. When the finance company finally reached out to begin repayment, the pay off amount was $13,970.05. Given that the cost of the shed was 13,339.75 and we already paid $526.17 of that, the rent to own option cost us an extra $1156.46. The sellers were not up front about that and knowingly pushed us to make that arrangement. I would have paid the total price in full had I known about the hidden costs.
