8/18/2023: I bought a 2016 Chevy Cruze from Gates Honda. I paid $11,659.98 (including tax, license, & a processing fee). The car appeared to be in good condition. It was clean & there were no discernable issues during the test drive. The dealership did not mention any known issues. 8/18 - 9/27: The car was driven for a few minutes a few times a week until my daughter got her license. 9/27 - 11/1: The car was driven for short distances most days. 11/1: The check engine light came on. 11/4: (Saturday) Took the car to a local Chevy dealership for an oil change & to determine the cause for the check engine light. I assumed the cause would be something minor since the car still drove well. That was not the case. The dealership found several issues. Most notably, the car was completely out of coolant. They refilled the coolant & then discovered a hole in a hose causing coolant to spray out. (We had noticed some liquid under the car at various times but thought it was normal condensation from the air conditioning.) The total estimate was just under $2,000. I picked up the car on 11/7. They suggested taking the car back to Gates & said if it was purchased from them, they would make it right. I called Gates to see if they felt the same way. They did not. 11/7: Immediately took the car to another repair business to get a second opinion & estimate. They noticed a leak & repaired it for $462.08 (11/8). 11/9: The check engine light came back on. Checked the car further & found a valve that needed to be replaced. On 11/14, I paid $133.64 to repair that. 11/20/2023: The check engine light came back on again. (Stopped driving the car the next day.) Put cardboard under the car to see if any fluid was still leaking. 11/24: Found that it was leaking oil. 11/27: Took it back for another estimate. $1,234.42 for a crack in another part. I believe these issues existed before I bought the car and were not disclosed.
