I hired **** ******* with Team Renovate to demo the apartment at my son's home and add an addition around May 2nd. **** quoted me a price of $228,000. I signed the quote, and I gave him a check for the demo on May 4, 2024 for $7500.00. I asked for a copy of the contract and signed quote and **** said he would have to make me a copy and bring it back to me. I also asked for his license and insurance at that time. **** always had an excuse as to why he didn't have this information with him. Demo started a few days later. He said demo would take 3 to 4 days and three to four weeks later they were still there demoing things. On June 13th, 2024, I gave **** an additional $25,000.00 paid by check. On June 17th, 2024, **** asked for an additional $21,700.00 paid by check. At this time they were still tearing things out of the apartment. On June 20th, 2024, **** requested another $25,000.00 paid by check. On July 3, 2024 **** asked for $49,150.00 and wanted it that afternoon. I explained to him that I have to take this out of retirement and it can not be done in one day. I was able to give him a check for $20,000.00 on July 3, 2024. On July, 8, 2024 I gave him the remaining $29,150.00 paid by check. At this time, my financial advisor let me know that they would not issue any more funds until they were provided invoices and receipts. I relayed this information to **** and he provided copies of receipts and invoices but I do not know if any of these were for my job. Most of them were not legible. On July 10, 2024 the City inspector stopped all work due to the fact that **** ******* and Team Renovate were not licensed. That very morning my son was notified by the HOA that we were building on the setback. Had ****ua Bernard secured a permit from the city as he told us he did, he would have been told then that this renovation was not possible. We have a full concrete slab with plumbing that has been poured that will have to be removed due to his negligence.
