March 2024 I took my cat in for a urinary tract infection. months. I was told she was treated for a UTI and that she was diabetic. Spent over $4,000 in a span of four months. I was paying for antibiotic shots and several different lab testings, on two separate occasions. I did not receive the email lab results I was told I would get. The doctor never called to review the results. No treatment plan or even discussion. Never scheduled follow up appointments. I had no idea what was going on, and after 2 separate UTI treatments she STILL has an unchanged UTI. I needed to renew her insulin as I have about 3 days worth left. I was told they wouldn’t refill her insulin until AFTER I schedule and drop my cat off for 8 hours of in house “observation” AND hourly testing. After $4,000 and paying for a wedding in 1 month, I literally can’t afford extensive inpatient observation and copious amounts of same day testings. I’d have to wait for a little over a month just to be able to afford this. They basically said too bad… Pay for the testing or your cat will run out of insulin in three days and, being deprived of a medication that she NEEDS TO LIVE, will die. I understand that glucose levels need to be periodically checked to ensure proper insulin dosage and I have no problem with that. But to demand an 8 hr inpatient observation with hourly testing… even after being told that id have to wait a month to gather funds for this unnecessary testing but willing to do the normal glucose testing… to still be told that they will let my cat die is abhorrent. No options of one or two weeks of insulin until testing can be done, no other options offered at all whatsoever. So knowing I would have to find another vet in 3 days MAX on a weekend and pay for all new client services or somehow come up with over a thousand dollars for their demands, this is extortion and preying on the vulnerable. This is callous, especially considering I was willing to meet unrealistic demands given a month
