    Current Alerts For This Business

    Alert:

In July 2022, BBB investigated this business due to customer complaints related to prepayment for services that the business failed to complete. According to complaints, the business offers a discount to customers who pay in advance for landscaping or snow removal. After collecting payment, the business ultimately fails to complete the job, then becomes unresponsive to customer calls seeking assistance.

BBB found the business changes names frequently. John "Jack" and Michele Church, owners of Metro Mow 'n Snow, previously operated as Farmington Mow 'n Snow, Friendly Neighborhood Lawn Service, Lawn & Snow King, Bluejay Outdoor Services, Northstar Snow Removal, Mike's Best Snow Plowing, The Snow Guys, Snow Guys Enterprises, Titan Seasonal Services, and Greenskeeper Lawn & Landscape, which BBB pursued in February 2019 due to a similar pattern of customer complaints.

BBB attempts to contact the business at 248-995-9900 remain unanswered. BBB could not identify an email address or website for the business. Mail to 30544 Grand River in Farmington Hills, MI was returned as undeliverable. According to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs' corporate record, the business' Resident Agent, attorney Gary Detloff, resigned on August 25, 2022, rendering the address contained in the corporate record invalid.

BBB continues to accept and report complaints against this business and fulfill its responsibility to inform the public, however, BBB has exhausted all forms of communication with the business, and it remains unresponsive to BBB attempts to resolve customer disputes.

If you have paid in advance for services that were not rendered, BBB suggests contacting your bank immediately and filing a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General at https://secure.ag.state.mi.us/complaints/consumer.aspx.

Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct::
Michigan Attorney General vs. John & Michele Church

The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government's allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On December 21, 2023, the Michigan Attorney General filed a complaint in 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County. Charges filed allege John and Michele Church and their various business entities and aliases are in violation of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA) and 2018 Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC).

According to the Attorney General's complaint, John and Michele Church offered residential snow removal, lawn care, and landscaping services in the Detroit area through incorporated business entities Metro Mow ‘N Snow, LLC, The Snow Guys, Inc, and John Church’s Snow Service, Inc. The pair also operate several non-incorporated business entities Farmington Mow N Snow, Snow Guy Enterprises, Titan Seasonal Services, Friendly Neighborhood Lawn Service, Friendly Lawn Care, Friendly Lawn & Snow, Lawn & Snow King, Greenkeepers Lawn & Landscape, North Star, Blue Jay Outdoor Services, and Mike’s Best. John Church sometimes uses the alias “Jack Flack”.

The complaint alleges the Churches breached terms of the 2018 AVC, continued to engage in unfair and deceptive business practices, including inducing consumers to pay in advance for services that were never started or only partially completed. The complaint further alleges failure to fulfill refund requests, gross misrepresentation of the scope and quality of work being offered, and misleading consumers as to their legal rights to post and publish honest reviews and/or file complaints about the services and conduct of the defendants.

The lawsuit seeks to dissolve all companies owned and operated by John and Michele Church and permanently enjoin them from working for any business entity that involves snow removal, lawn care, or landscaping services.

This matter is pending. Please see the Attorney General’s press release here.

Contracted them for snow removal. They did a terrible job on the first snow and didn't show up when it snowed the second time when we had over 5 inches. They request pre-payment and make up excuses as to why they cannot get the job done. Will never use them again. Terrible company.
