My wife’s alternator went out. I took it to the shop because it was right next to my apartment. They called me on the phone after doing the 140 diagnostic to tell me it needed a new battery, alternator, and was “way overdue” for an oil change. It was just over 3000 miles since the last oil change, which was full synthetic. Toyota recommends 10000 mile intervals and most mechanics will recommend 6-8k with full synthetic. The brand new battery was completely shot, and it needed a new alternator. The quote was for 1500 dollars. I went to the shop to ask about it, they told me the battery was internally shorted. ******** and my other mechanic both tested it and say it’s fine. They wanted to charge 400 dollars for a battery replacement which is absurd. For a remanufactured alternator, they were charging over 400 dollars, just for the part. At ******** you can’t find one for more than 230. This should’ve been a 500-700 job and they are charging double to triple that. They also lied to me about properly testing the battery and charging 100 for an oil change far more frequently than is necessary. Once they started the repair, I’m sure they would’ve found faulty pulleys and changed those out as well for a premium profit. * * * After I wrote the above on a ****** review, they accused me of only being upset that they “caught me working on my car in their lot.” It was a Sunday, the only day I had to make the repair. They were closed and I didn’t want to move the car before paying for the diagnostic. It was on the very edge of their lot, so close to the road I wasn’t even sure if it was their property or not. They approached me. I introduced myself, explained my situation, and asked if I could pay and move the car to finish the repair. They agreed. Both parties were friendly about it. They know this has nothing to do with my review. In fact the way they handled this and overall how friendly the are was a positive of my experience. However, they are still scamming people.
