The owner stole my diamond and replaced with lesser quality when he was suppose to reset the diamond.

    Lane Jewelers Response

    04/18/2023

I did not steal her diamond; Originally, my staff discussed fixing or replacing all prongs and gave a quote. When I inspected the ring, the head of the ring and the wear on the shank warranted replacement. We had discussed a white gold ring and because my staff had quoted her a price for repairing the head, which was not cost appropriate, I provided and mounted her diamond in a six prong 14 kt white gold head and shank for the price originally quoted. Her husband came in and told my staff it was not his ring. He was expecting a yellow gold ring with a white gold head. Because of the yellow gold to white gold confusion, he thought I had switched diamonds. I asked him to bring his ring appraisal in. He brought in the ring appraisal, at that point in time, and in front of him I took the diamond out of its new setting measured it in front of him, and weighed it, the measurements were dead on, and the appraisal weight was estimated by formula to be approximately 1.01 carat and the actual weight was 1 carat. The color and clarity were consistent with their appraisal, which I had not seen before. They then demanded I pay for an outside party to look at their diamond and compare it to their appraisal. I refused to incur the additional expense. They then proceeded to post negative false accusations about me and my store on social media. Including here at the BBB. They said they did not want to talk to me. They gave me phone numbers that did not go through and would not leave me an address. They said they were getting a lawyer involved. Today: a month after they told my staff they would not take my calls. They talked to my store manager and demanded again that I foot the bill for an outside appraiser, and implied they would take me to court. Meanwhile, I have remounted their diamond and am waiting for them to pick it up. Furthermore, because my staff failed to communicate the actual cost of what was necessary to make the diamond safe, I provided a whole new 14 kt white gold shank and head, for the diamond at the original quote for repairing prongs. It was a goodwill gesture as they were new to the area, and both were served and were retired veterans. What more should I do? If they take me to court, I am confident I will be vindicated. How do I deal with this irrational harassment? And how do I get false accusations off the internet?

This is absolutely false, the owner left out that he lost our original setting, we never talked to him about a white gold setting until he told us that our setting was misplaced. He told us in January that he had mistakenly given our ring to another customer and promised to get it back. After 4 additional weeks, he told us that the customer didn’t have our ring but he had our diamond and would put it in any setting that we preferred. That was in late January, 4 weeks later. At that time we agreed to a different setting but expressed our concern about the diamond and requested an independent appraisal. How can we trust him after 6 weeks of one excuse after another. He tried to get us to accept a manmade diamond, said he could give one twice the size. I am retired Commander of the US Navy, I held a top secret clearance for over 25 years, I would not lie on this retailer or any other. All we requested was an independent appraisal because our ring and diamond was misplaced for over 6 weeks. We do not trust the owner of Lane Jeweler and his the untruthfulness of his response proves that he is not trustworthy. We are requesting an independent appraisal of the ring and diamond that he claims to be ours and this issue will quickly go away.

This retail did the same think to a lady 2 years ago, see reviews. But this lady signed a new receipt which was used to say she left the store with the ring. Weird because the owner tried to get us to sign a new receipt also, asked us to start a new receipt. We knew better.

    Lane Jewelers Response

    04/24/2023

Point of fact I have no problems with an independent appraisal. I just told them I would not pay for it. The ball has been in their court. The white gold ring that he said was not his, was the ring I took the diamond out of and measured and weighed in front of him with his appraisal it matched. I did not ask them to sign a new receipt, but a new work order for approval of remounting the diamond and sizing the ring because we took the diamond out to compare with the appraisal. In reference to the lady of two years ago signed a letter stating she received her ring back. She had given me three rings in trade for a custom project which she loved. Three months later she wanted her marquise diamond back and she claimed I had stolen it. I did not and to solve the problem of he said and she said. I remounted the diamond, it matched her appraisal, for her in the same type setting it was in originally and she signed a letter stating the facts. She did not take down her complaint. When, the diamond in question is confirmed to be the same as their appraisal even if the 18-year-old value drops, I would like a written public apology for all false claims. Payment for the original estimate of $50.00 plus tax. I am a man of my word. I am upset that my integrity and honesty and the reputation of my store have been compromised.

On 5/3/2023 Mr. ****** picked up his wife's diamond mounted in a white gold six prong setting sized to 8 1/4. The setting was approved by ****** ****** (by phone). The diamond was evaluated by an outside appraiser on 5/3/2023 and confirmed to be their diamond because it matched their original appraisal. The accusations posted against my name, reputation and store were proven to be unwarranted. The ******s have not done anything to mitigate their false claims as of this point in time (5-11-2023).

tting; remember, Lane Jewelry lost our original 14k gold setting, and put a diamond in a white gold setting that was one size to small, which is why we refused to accept the diamond without a gemology assessment. Why would he tell us that he mistakenly gave our diamond to an elderly couple, why offer us a manmade diamond-twice the size, why would tell us the value of diamonds have decreased and why did it take him over 10 weeks to produce a diamond that he claimed was ours. This is why he gave us a new white gold setting, he lost our 14k gold setting. After speaking to another client that had the exact same experience, we lost all confidence and trust. If other people want to trust this jeweler, it’s up to them but I stand by my belief and will never visit this jeweler again; he has caused me to question leaving jewelry with any jeweler. And if he was totally being honest, why wouldn’t he have paid the $175 for the independent appraisal, he is the one that lost/misplaced my ring and diamond resulting in this issue.
