I am a 71 year old retired Senior Citizen living on a fixed income. On 10/12/2022, in response to an ad in the ******* **** *** ****** publication, I hired Ax Men Tree Service to trim trees in my backyard. The ad shows the **** ********** and ******** credit card logos. After the service was completed I handed my **** card to the owner, John, and he told me he no longer accepts credit cards. I was shocked by this and told him I did not have enough funds in my checking account to pay him the total including sales tax of $755.81 (the original invoice #**** amount of $815.62 was discounted with a $55.00 coupon upon job completion), but I could get the funds into the account, with great financial difficulty, within a few days. I wrote him a check for the full amount and asked him to not cash it until I could get the funds deposited. He cashed the check the next day. Fortunately I was able to also deposit the funds that day, again with great financial difficulty. If I had not been able to do that, outstanding checks in my account would have started bouncing and I would have incurred multiple overdraft fees because John did not follow my instructions. If his ad indicates that he accepts credit cards, then he should be obligated to do so. I called John on 11/4/2022 to explain my dissatisfaction and to date have received no response. I feel a fair resolution to this matter is for John to refund in cash or by check the amount I paid him by check and bill my **** credit card instead.
