Additional business information
Consumers across the country have been receiving a letter stating they are a prize winner of the USA Mega (under the international Sweepstakes draw) and also a $4500 check. They are instructed to contact their claim agent before depositing the check into their checking account and forwarding the monies to help pay for the processing fee. The fraudulent checks have been stolen from Weaver Leather. Do not deposit these checks as they will not clear and you will be responsible for any associated bank fees.
TIPS FOR LOTTERIES, SWEEPSTAKES AND UNEXPECTED CHECKS:
•Don't pay upfront fees to claim a prize. No legitimate sweepstakes company will ever ask you to pay a fee or buy something to enter or improve your chances of winning — that includes paying "taxes," "shipping and handling charges," or “processing fees” to get your prize.
•You need to play to win. A notification that you have won a prize in a contest you do not remember entering should be a red flag.
•Be suspicious of irregular communication. Legitimate organizations will not send a check in the mail without first confirming with you. And you won’t be notified that you are a winner and have to respond or act within 24 hours to collect your prize. Also watch for spelling and grammar mistakes in their correspondence.
•Be aware that a check can bounce even after your bank allows you to withdraw cash from the deposit. Checks can take 7 - 10 days to be determined a fraudulent check. You will be responsible for any associated bank fees from any funds drawn against the amount.
