In July 2022, BBB contacted Zuri CBD regarding claims in its advertising.

Its website states "We follow the Ohio Department of Agriculture strict guidelines, and our facility is registered with the Federal Drug and Food Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency." BBB Code of Advertising states that the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any claims or offers made before publication or broadcast and, upon request, present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or the BBB.  The business proved some documents to BBB but these did not sufficiently support the claim that the facility is registered with the FDA and EPA. 

Its website and Google page state, respectively, "We purchase CBD manufactured in the USA from credible companies" and  "ZURI CBD is a wholesaler and online retailer of CBD products using superior quality CBD grown in the USA."  Since unqualified grown or manufactured in USA claims require substantiation, BBB requested that the business provide proof of these claims. The business did not provide the requested proof.

Testimonials on its website and social media pages contain health benefit claims related to the use of CBD, including, but not limited to the following.
"We use the Bio-Freeze 1000mg rub for a constant back pain and wife uses it for carpel tunnel pain and it has never let us down"
"My husband is in pain daily in his upper and lower joints from gout, arthritis and neuropathy. He LOVES Zuri and Highly depends on it daily to relieve his pain."
"I had neck and back issues pretty severely so gave Zuri a try, after the first application I felt immediate pain relief and complete relaxation. I then used it on my husband for pain and healing after he had Achilles Tendon surgery. Not only did it help with the pain the doctor said he healed beautifully and he now sleeps through the night without waking, when I apply to his entire back."

Advertising that uses testimonials or endorsements is likely to mislead or confuse if it contains representations or statements which would be misleading if made directly by the advertiser. Advertisers must be able to support claims found in the testimonials used in their marketing. BBB suggested that if substantiation is not available, it would be advisable to remove such testimonials. The business did not remove the testimonials or provide substantiation.

Health benefit and ingredient claims also appear in product descriptions and blogs on its website and in posts on its Facebook page. According to the BBB Code of Advertising, claims relating to performance, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.  Below are some of the claims that appear in Zuri CBD's advertising that require substantiation.  The business did not provide substantiation or modify these claims.
"Argan Oil Argan oil boosts elasticity, prevents and reverses skin discoloration and reduces oiliness."
"Rosehip Seed Oil- While brightening your skin, rosehip seed oil fights acne and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles."
"Full Spectrum CBD CBD is known for reducing redness, and breakouts."
"For years, the World Health Organization’s expert committee on drug dependence has listed numerous conditions that CBD may benefit. Research has been conducted on both animals and humans pointing to relieving feelings of isolation and reducing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)."  
"Mitigate Social Anxiety"
