We had reached out to Mr. ****** in early 2023 about a kitchen remodel and wanted custom cabinetry. He said he would be able to take on the job and we received an estimate that totalled $43,562.00. This amount had included subcontracted work for the granite countertops, electrical, and ceramic floor. We paid him a deposit with check #*** for $22,000 on Feb.9, 2023 and Mr. ****** then cashed it at 5/3 bank on Feb. 10, 2023 (although on our receipt from Mr. ****** he mistakenly wrote 2/9/2022). Receipt #******.
We asked when we should expect work to start and he said he is mostly a one man show (which we knew) so between building the cabinets and then demo and remodel we were looking at around mid-August 2023. From that point, it has been a nightmare. Over the course of 2023, we rarely got answers to texts, the kitchen was not ready in August. Mr. ****** had mentioned health issues, a grandma passing, a best friend passing, a water leak in their house, a tree falling on their house that caused him to be behind.
We are very reasonable people, had he texted us and explained these situations, we would have been understanding. But we had constantly texted and called with very minimal response. Fall came and went and he had shot for having it done at thanksgiving and that didn't happen. February 2024 we were able to finally contact him and he came to the house and setup starting beginning of March. Sickness was to blame again. He would come for an hour or two a day. **** kept asking to see the cabinets and there was always an excuse as to why we couldn't though he claimed they were finished.
We subbed out the other work to move things along. Once the kitchen was ready, he then couldn't install bc he sprained his ankle. Out 3 weeks. Saw him on FB working at camp. Worked the July 4 parade. **** asked for our money back at the parade. Gave him 2 weeks. We haven't received any response or money after several attempts. Have more info, not enough space.
