We recently purchased a home with an Erie Metal roof that was around 10 years old. The warranty has been transferred to my name, recent rain storms showed that the roof was leaking. I contacted Erie multiple times about and have been getting the run around. It has been weeks and my ceiling is beginning to fall in, no other contractors in the area will touch a metal roof and I have not so much as received a follow-up call. They sent someone the next day, they cobbled a patch and left. The leak is less now but it has been radio silence since. Trying to reach the company via phone is futile, the only number anyone answers is the sales line. If you speak to a salesman they give you an 800 number to call which goes straight to voicemail no matter what time of day you call. Multiple messages left and no return calls. Meanwhile the situation in my home is getting worse and worse.Business response

[BBB transcription; consumer filed duplicate complaint, see files]
I previously filed a complaint in April in regard to my roof leaking and damaging the interior of my home. Erie made good on the warranty and replaced the roof as the install prior was very shoddy work and had been leaking for quite some time. In fact, they had a leak reported in 2016 that apparently hadn't been dealt with. They were not responding to phone calls; the situation became worse and worse. When they did come to inspect the house and replace the roof they tore the ceiling out of my bedroom and found that there was extensive water damage. I was asked to sign a blank completion form after replacement of the work via email. They told me they would fill it out afterwards, this didn't fly with me, so I received a generic filled in form that they had informed me needed to be signed in order for the installers to get paid. This is where the complaint comes in, they finish the roof, told me they would be out to fix the damage. They went as far as having a local restoration company come out and do an inspection. Then crickets, nothing. I have text messages and emails pertaining to this issue that just stopped on July 14th of 2022. Erie was working with their insurance, and restoration company to fix the issue. They were supposed to get with me in the next 2 weeks to have the issue remedied. It's a month later and I'm being ghosted again. The water damage has not fixed itself; I have an opening into my attic in my bedroom, and now rodents are finding their way into my bedroom from the attic / roof.

We hired Eerie roofing to tear off our old roof and replace it. We informed the salesperson that there was more than one layer and we were pretty sure the underlayment needed replacement. The salesperson told us not to worry about it, and if the underlayment (plywood) was damaged that the crew would replace all underlayment with new wood, at the company's cost. He told us that his boss would make the first financing payment and that payment on our loan would not be due until 90 days after completion of our project. Eerie sent their crew out out 2/2022. None of the crew spoke English and had to communicate with my wife via Google translate. They needed an outlet to plug tools into, but the request didn't translate well and asked for a flashlight. After much signing and gesturing, she finally figured out he needed an outlet and climbed over a large amount of roofing debris to plug in their air compressor. She was concerned about the fact that there was no new plywood and they were clearly tearing off all the old plywood, but couldn't communicate it to them due to the language barrier. They finished roofing in 3 days. There are now large gaps in all areas where the siding meets the roof. We are NOT pleased. Eerie contacted us to sign the completion paperwork repeatedly by phone and email. I told them by phone and email that I am not satisfied with the job that was done. They basically bullied us into signing with the 'promise' they'd be back to finish. It's March 30th, they still haven't returned. We have cleaned up 2 1/2 quart bags of nails from around our home. We have filled 4-13 gallon bags with roofing debris left behind. They swept a lot of debris under our front deck. The worst part is the water damage occurring to my home because of the gaps. We have reached out multiple times. We were contacted 2 weeks ago saying they would be here to make repairs-nobody showed up. We are already paying on the loan and were charged 2-3x the price the ***** would have charged.Business response

[BBB Transcription via Duplicate Complaint]
The roof that was put on my house 18 months ago started leaking. We contacted the company and ***** ****** came in February to inspect the damage. He told us the job that was done on our home was awful and that the entire roof would be replaced at Erie's expense. He stated that we were fourth in line to have our roof replaced. It has been five months and we've heard nothing. I called ***** today, he no longer works there but gave me another number. I called ***** the general manager only to find out he no longer works there either. ***** gave me another number for Kyle, and I left a voicemail. I am tired of trying to deal with this company. This is our home. We paid $15000 for a new roof that leaks and looks awful. Now we will be facing mold and structural issues and nobody at Erie seems to care. I cannot believe you gave them an A+ eating. I will never trust a BBB rating again. After this 18 month long experience from hell. I changed and settled my last complaint with them a year ago because they said it was required or they wouldn't do the repairs.
I want a brand new roof with brand new sheeting, soffit and fascia. I'd also like a refund of a portion of our purchase price as recompense for the ridiculous amount of emotional stress and damage caused. Prior to this our roof didn't leak even with half the shingles missing!

On March 2, we agreed to purchase replacement for our roof. The cost was $36,817 and we put down $8,000. The checks were cashed within two days of our meeting. We experienced buyer's remorse and sent the paperwork to cancel the contract. The first notice was sent and returned with a "no forwarding address" though our notice was sent to the address on our contract. With the assistance of the post office. we mailed our notice to the corporate office address within the three day FTC limit and received a return receipt. The day after we received an intimidating call from a man named "******" who implied that we had not met the regulation and might have to pay a penalty. My husband corrected the statement and said we had all the necessary documents to verify our compliance. "****** asked my husband what was our reasoning for canceling and my husband stated that we did not want to tie up our money for the term of the loan. At this point the salesman asked if he could come to our home to discuss some things on the next day. Because my wife was unavailable, he said he would call us early the following week to set up an appointment. (the date of that call was March 10th.) We have not heard from Erie Construction since. And have not been reimbursed for our down-payment within the FTC ten day requirement of refund. It has been 22 days since we cancelled our contract. We were gifted two coffee cups by the initial salesman, ***. which we will happily return if they will send us the proper address to mail it to.Business response

I noticed my roof was leaking and I remembered I seen an ad online about Erie giving away free roofs to advertise their product. When the sales person came to my house on Saturday 3/12/2022, the first question he asked me was how I found out about the company, I told him that I seen Erie's about a free roof and he apologized and said they don't give out free roofs. Then he asked my husband and I if we knew much about roofs and we said no. We asked his if he could inspect our roof. He looked into our attic and he and recommended we get a new roof. He measured our house and said he gets his qoute amount by using a tool online called Homewise that finds the adverage amount that people in the area pay to replace their roof and bases the estimate on that. He came up with the $38,000 to get our roof done and since he used that "online tool" we believed that was the adverage, but it still was to high for us. He offered their sale their company was having, which was 60 percent off of labor and he said it would take $3,800 off of the total. by this time he was at our house for 4 hours and my children were getting inpatient and hungry. Feeling pressured and rushed in need to get it done we quickly signed the paperwork not realising he didn't take the $3,800 off of the amount. He said since we had that leak he was going to put us at the top of the list and it could probably be done the next week. When it was Thursday 3/17/2022, I noticed they didn't call me yet, so I called them and they said they tried to call me and they left me a voicemail. I confrimed that they had the right number, and when I hung up I seenno missed call or voicemail in my call history and felt lied to. I then started to feel like maybe this was a scam. I looked at the paperwork and noticed they didn't take the $3,800 off. So I wanted to cancel the contract, so I called them again on Friday 3/18/2022 and told them I wanted to cancel. They said I would have to pay $6,000 to cancel.Business response

I was quoted my monthly would be $170 and it went up to $202. Then the expected issues of mother nature but if they didn't start a day after they were supposed to start we could've avoided the rain. It started to rain off and on the next two days. They were extremely messy with the clean up. We had two different leaks two months after they completed the work. Then now I have a major leak in my kitchen currently and I'm being told that there isn't anything they see wrong but I needed some sealant. I also was told they don't do the drip edge. I was shown an 3D view of my roof and there was a small piece of roof that wasn't done they said it wasn't in the contract. Why wouldn't that been wasn't included. I'm so frustrated at the last of concern or empathy for the issues I'm experiencing. No one cares cause I guess it's business as usually and my lousy $14,000 isn't much to a multi-million company. I work hard everyday and don't feel that I am valued at all. I had to hire someone to inspect the work that was done cause it clearly wasn't done properly and express this concern and I'm basically being told that they see nothing wrong. My roof wasn't prepped properly, there's missing nails and sealant, missing shingles, and not sealed around the perimeter properly.Business response

On 11/15/2019 I signed a contract with Erie construction to give me a new roof at my residence. I paid $32,950. I put $500 down payment and financed the rest through foundation finance company. They committed to prep my home for tear off of existing roof; to install a new metal shingle system in the color of my choice; to resheet decking; to install Thermasheet upgraded underlayment; to install new drip edges, rake edges, flushing pipe boots, ridge vent system, snow and ice shield and all other accessories needed. This company also offered a lifetime warranty or if the house is sold to someone else 50 year warranty. I am disputing this because I had a leak in my garage in 2020 and then a leak in my kitchen window in 2021. A mere year after installation. Hunter came out to inspect and is a current employee of Erie construction and mentioned the installation was done incorrectly. He put a wood board in the attic to patch up the leak but did not make a permanent fix. I had to have other local roofing companies come out for estimates and inspections of my roof. I am submitting their findings as well. I have been trying for almost a year now to have Erie construction company give me a new roof and install it correctly this time. They refuse to make permanent solutions. At this point, I want a full refund of my money so that I can hire a more reputable roofing company to give me a new roof.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: the company is not coming out to rectify the issues. I have tried calling them without response. When I did finally reach them they said they were waiting for parts however this was 3 weeks ago and I haven’t heard anything else from them. The issues involve the entire roof in many different areas and the only solution is a new roof. They are trying to just replace one section but that will compromise the rest of the roof as they stated this would do 2 years ago. I do not trust this company to replace the entire roof at this point since they are stating the issues can just be fixed even though they said with this material it is not possible to only replace a section. I would like a full refund so that I can have a more reputable company replace the roof.
Sincerely,

On 18 Nov 21 I had my rear roof replaced by Erie roofing. I was charged for nine (9) sheets of roof decking (plywood) but only three (3) were delivered and used for the roofing project. When I made the salesman aware of this discrepancy he informed me I would be getting a refund ($500.00) for the missing material. Its been over 3 months and all I want is the refund I was promised to get.Business response

I contracted with Erie to have my roof replaced in 2020, in which work started at the end of June. Apart from several problems that we have since been able to get resolved, albeit with a lot of difficulty, the final one that has happened has led me to write this complaint. One of the things I was told by the salesman was that the financing for the roof would be 0% APR for 36 months, broken up into two 18 month sections. We were informed that we would received paperwork for the second set of 18 months towards the end of the first and would be issued a new round of credit cards and the old ones would be canceled. We have just crossed the 18 month mark and have not received any paperwork and were just charged a very high amount of accumulated interest as the loan was not paid off yet. I have made several attempts to contact the Sales Manager of the Washington DC store where we made the purchase of the roof and have not received any return call to try to work out this situation.Business response
