******** ******* ** is one half of the merger that created Spero Financial. I'd been with AFCU since the 70's. Great place all those years. Rarely an issue and if there was, they took care of it! Quickly and without me having to beg. Spero has been problem after problem. They refuse to let you speak to the same person when it concerns the same problem - makes too much sense I guess to deal with someone who already knows what is going on. When I asked to speak with the pervious rep, I was told, "NO!" as if I were a child. I asked a supervisor to pull the audio and listen and she said she would. (this was after I sent an email to the CEO), but I guess she forgot to call me back. That is very common. They forget a lot. Or they get busy. Vacation. All kinds of things prevent them from calling you when they say they will. My most recent problem, which I emailed the CEO (again) about, was a transfer I put in place, that I received a receipt for and have screenshots proving, never took place. He has not responded to my email at all. (He didn't respond the first time either. That time however, he did have someone to call me - the lady who forgot to call me back after she looked into my problem and listened to those videos that "they keep".) Seems that the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. One rep tells you this - the next tells you that. The issues we have had are too much to attempt to write here as I am only allowed a certain number of characters. It is a lot of trouble to change banks when you've been around a while. My better half says the troubles we have had with this credit union are just about to outnumber the problems with switching to another. We are checking out some other credit unions now. Oh how we wish the merger had never happened and we could go back to ******** ******* ****** ******

Hannah was great trying her best to get a vehicle that i have financed with another institution. But Underwriting process was very unprofessional, taking almostv2 weeks to get an answer back to me, and after all the documents they required, still turned me down when i have been with that branch for many years and have had previous loans with good standing that were paid off with no issues!!!! Dont try to get a loan with this unprofessional loan process!!!! I will be looking to switch ALL of my accounts with this bank in the near future. Was able to easily get my vehicle refinanced easily with another bank.....Very sub par lending criteria at this bank!!!!

I’ve been banking with the company for yrs? And the employees to give you information in writing and verbal? Then turn around and do something different? Need to train the employees better. I’m very disappointed with this Community Bank.

I’ve banked with this institution for 9 years account was always in google standing until recently. They decided to charge off a credit card and close my checking account that I had for 9 years I was never able to get an auto loan after doing great business with the sad institution and another credit union that I wasn’t a member of gave me an auto loan this is bad business and I truly recommend no one do business with them save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I wouldn’t do business with them again

Website is horrible. At least with REAL financial institutions they are user friendly and up to par with their services and correct them in timely manners: Spero isn't one of them. Funny how my over 800 credit score gets trashed by "clerical" errors by this horrendous scam financial institution. Hopefully soon the SC State AG Henry W***** will bring the justice hammer on these scammers.

Spero closed my son’s saving/checking account and charged it off on my credit for $3.56. Since graduating college and being out of work temporary he doesn’t use this account that much but to charge the account off on his credit report for $3.56 is ridiculous and bad business. Now he has a negative hit on his credit report for this action. When he opened the account he had to make a $25 deposit in the share account they should have just took the $3.75 from the $25 then closed the account. Now he has to try and get this action off my credit report. Ridiculous!

I do not like all the hidden fees that are accessed on my checking account. I possibly need to learn how to manage my money more but ever month I'm in the negative. Just ask the business to explain some more detail to me. PLEASE! I like this credit union..

This is the worst financial institution I have ever worked with! I had a HELOC through them which I looked online at the balance to pay off after I sold my house. Paid off the balance in full according to the online amount. Turns out that was not the correct amount if I wanted to pay off the loan. So after paying off a lump sum payment of over $50,000 they said it was an addition $200 to pay off the loan. This was sent to me in a letter after they had also reported me to the credit reporting agency because I was past due on the $200. Now my credit score has dropped 70 points and they said they did nothing wrong and won’t reverse the claim against me. We have contacted them many times about this and have gotten no where. I guess paying off your loan early must not be beneficial to them. Worst experience ever.

In January of 2021, I decided to open an account with Anderson Federal Credit Union, not knowing they were going to become Spero. I proceeded with starting a new account because I wasn't happy with my experiences at ***** *****. What an irony that ** turned out to be the better company. I was persuaded to purchase Spero's debt protection plan in the event I couldn't make payments on my loan/credit card. Fast forward to January 2022--I got sick with Covid, missed nearly a month of work and had financial trouble. Little did I know that the pandemic was supposed to have an expiration date. I called to ask what my options were, and the rep cheerfully told me "you have the regular 10 day grace period to make payments" then shut me down. Fast forward to July 2022-- I was laid off from my job. Again, I got zero advice or help with my account. This industry (I refuse to call it a bank or a financial institution anymore) is more than happy to sell you services you'll never be able to use, while charging fee after fee for things outside of your control. Their online banking app is useless; it's never up to date and you're required to access a completely different website in order to perform basic functions. Spero pretends to be a friendly hometown credit union for the average person, but...forgive the expression... wouldn't pee on you if you were on fire.
