On 9/28/21 I saw a primary care physician at one of the Lexington Medical Center family medicine locations. The doctor decided to order some standard blood work as a means of establishing my general health status. Things like cholesterol levels, Iron, etc. there were 12 test run total. I was billed $1,400 for these simple lab tests. The charges were not billed as routine physical lab work, but instead as new patient establishment. I was being seen as a new patient, but as part of that visit the doctor decided there was a need to run these labs as part of a physical. I have asked for it to be rebilled as a routine physical and they have refused even though my husband was also seen as a new patient and his was billed that way. They can't explain why his was billed differently. I have asked that it be rebilled self pay and they have refused. They refuse to give me any discount on the bill. $1,400 is an exorbitant amount for such blood work and I don't feel it was billed correctly. At this point, they are telling me my only avenue is to seek financial assistance which I probably will not qualify for. To put it in perspective, my company offered free testing such as this before COVID. It was a simple finger stick and a few minutes in a little machine to provide cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood glucose. For free. Now I'm being charged hundreds of dollars for just those tests alone. There were other tests that the Dr ordered without my knowledge or consent and those are being billed for hundreds more. When I've asked about that they tell me the Dr knows best and orders what they feel is needed. But the Dr is not the one paying $1,400 for these tests. I am, so I should have a say. Another perspective, I went to one of their urgent care locations and paid less for that visit than I did for the doctors office visit. Another perceptive. I had an upper endoscopy by a gastroenterologist and was only billed $674 which included anesthesia.Business response
