Our 4 year old dog had chronic anal gland problems requiring frequent gland expressions. We took her to Value Vet October 2022 for an anal gland expression because our regular vet was unavailable. The owner (a Veterinarian) told us we should not have her anal sacs removed. He said he could perform a silver nitrate infusion that would stop the need for frequent visits altogether. He assured us that in no way would it make the problem worse. The vet said the only negative would be it may not work the first time and our dog may need the procedure repeated. We trusted him and agreed to the procedure. I feel he injured our dog by this infusion of silver nitrate into the anal glands of our dog. Shortly after the procedure was performed our dog sustained a ruptured anal gland and multiple infections. Several other vets informed us that our dog now needed surgery for anal sac removal due to the damage, scarring and blocking of the anal ducts done by the silver nitrate. Following the damaging silver nitrate procedure the vet never called to check on the status of our dog nor has he ever returned any of my repeated calls about the problems his procedure caused. Also, it is very difficult to get through to speak to anyone. We found a wonderful skillful surgeon who removed our dog's anal sacs. Our dog is family and we have all suffered at the hands of this Value Vet veterinarian. My husband and I are devastated at how we were duped into putting our dog through such an unorthodox caustic procedure leaving us no recourse but to put her through enormously expensive surgery. We have truly suffered due to this veterinarian not being truthful and withholding the dangers of using silver nitrate in anal glands. Please do not trust anyone with your beloved pet until you have researched the company and the procedure they will perform and get several other opinions from reputable veterinarians. Beware of this company!
