My boyfriend (age 77) took his dog, *****, to Primary Pet Care in Stow, in July of 2023. At that time, ***** got a 3 year distemper vaccine, a bordetella vaccine, and a heartworm/tick screening. My boyfriend DID NOT get any heartworm pills. Fast forward to Feb 21, 2024. I have had ***** since Oct 30, 2023 because my boyfriend went to the hospital and passed away Jan 28, 2024. I called Primary Pet Care and made an appointment for ***** to have a wellness checkup and get him a dental cleaning. On 2-21-24, I took him in for his appointment. I was told he would need to have complete blood-work done. I specifically asked that a heartworm test be included with that bloodwork because I have always treated all my dogs with monthly heartworm pills and wanted to do the same for *****. I asked for and was sold 6 months worth of heartworm prevention pills. When I was given the estimate for the dental cleaning, it was close to one thousand dollars. I decided to take ***** to the vet who treats my other dog for his teeth cleaning and they agreed they would accept *****. My vet asked to have the results of *****’s bloodwork sent to their office, which I did. That is when I learned Primary Pet Care did not have the heartworm test performed on ***** because they said he had a heartworm test done in July of 2023. However, ***** was never put on heartworm prevention, when he was tested at Primary Pet Care in July 2023 so anything could have happened between July 2023 and Feb 21, 2024, when I took him to Primary Pet Care. Yet, they dispensed me6 months worth of heartworm pills! When I called Primary Pet Care and questioned them about this, their solution was, they could contact the lab and see if they had any blood sample left from *****’s 2-21-24 visit and see if they could perform a heartworm test on it but there would be an additional cost of $77. I declined this solution. My vet will do the heartworm test for $38. Primary Pet Care offers substandard care and over-charges!
